What is Pradosh Vrat?
What is Pradosh Vrat ?It is also called Pradosham located in South India, seeks blessings from Lord Shiva. Pradosh Vrat happens on all of the Trayodashi Tithis, i.e., Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi, in a lunar month. Some recognize the two among Shukla and Krishna Paksha Pradosham.
If Pradosham day falls on Monday, it is known as Soma Pradosham, and on Tuesday, it’s Bhauma Pradosham.On Saturdays, it is known by the name of Shani Pradosham. For Pradosham Vrat, daytime is fixed when Trayodashi Tithi occurs during Pradosh Kaal that begins at sunset.
The period following the evening in which Trayodashi Tithi and Pradosh overlap are auspicious in Shiva Puja’s context. In the past, Lord Shiva, along with Goddess Parvati is revered at the time of Pradosh Vrat.
The day is highly auspicious because it falls on Monday, one of the days dedicated to Lord Shiva. On the day of Pradosh Vrat, it is believed that devotees sing Shiva Stotras at the appropriate Pradosh time and also do Shiva Abhishek or bathe the Shivling in milk.
The puja to the Pradosh Vrat is generally performed at night.

The procedure of performing Pradosh Vrat Fasting?
There are two ways of fasting during the Pradosh vrat–
One is to fast from sunrise to sunset and then break the fast following the worship of Lord Shiva at night. Another method is to observe an unbreakable fast throughout the day, all 24 hours.
–Rules of Pradosh Vrat-
- To practice Pradosh Vrat, the person should get up early in the dawn on the morning of Trayodashi.
- One must contemplate Lord Shiva through bathing.
- Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” in as many repetitions as you like.
- Bathe again before doing Pradosh Kaal Puja.
- There is no food intake during this fast.
- Beware of anger and controversies.
- Brahmacharya should be performed during the Pradosh Vrat.
- On this day, one must be a devotee of the god Shiva by bathing for an hour before sunset.
- Asana of Kusha is best performed at the time of Pradosh Vrat.
After Puja/Vrat-
(a)Do avoid eating onions, meat, garlic, meat, or other Tamasic food items.
(b)Do not smoke or drink alcohol.
