Legend states that before Mahabharata’s start, Barbarika’s final desire was to witness the fight of Mahabharata. Thus Lord Krishna set his head on the Mahabharata battlefield situated on the summit of a mountain so that Barbarika could view the war from the top.
After many years, the body was discovered buried in Khatu village at the start of Kali Yuga. Khatu village is located in the present day in Rajasthan. The exact location was unknown until long after the Kali Yuga period began.
Suddenly on occasion, milk began to flow automatically from The cow’s udder as she was nearing the grave site. Surprised by this event, the local villagers excavated the grave and discovered the head of the Barbarika.
Barbarika’s head was given to a Brahmin who prayed to it for a long time, waiting for divine revelations to determine what would happen further.
Roop Singh Chauhan, King of Khatu, had a dream in which the king was inspired to construct an altar and place the head in it. In the following days, the Temple was built, and the god was placed in it on the eleventh day Shukla Paksha (bright half) of the month of Phalgun.
Lord Krishna rewarded his name to Barbarika.
Based on Hindu mythology, before the fight of Mahabharata started, the strength of Barbarika was believed to be unrivalled. Barbarika had decided to favour the weaker side to keep him righteous, a choice that could lead to the destruction of both teams, leaving Barbarika as the only remaining survivor.
It is claimed that Shree Krishna, to stay away from these devastating consequences, requested Barbarika to remove his head (Sheesh Daan)d, to which Barbarika agreed.
Shree Krishna was thrilled by the devotion that was shown to him. Through the great sacrifice made by Barbarika, Shree Krishna gave him an oath, following the terms of Barbarika would be referred to as Krishna’s Name, Shyam Ji in the Kaliyug (present time), and he will be worshipped in his form.

How to reach Khatu Shyam Ji temple Rajasthan
Khatu Shyam Ji temple Rajasthan can be easily accessible by trains and roads.
Train: The closest railway station to The Temple’s location is Ringas Junction (RGS), located 17 kilometres away from the Temple. Many trains depart from Delhi and Jaipur to Ringas that you may choose to take.
