Before the Krishna Raja Sagara dam project was initiated by Sir M.Visvesvaraya in 1909, the complex of temples was established in the town of Kannambadi. In 1909, the KRS Dam project believed that Kannambadi and other encompassing villages would become drowned. In the era of King Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, Mysore, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV commissioned the creation of a village replacement for residents of Kannambadi and, with the authority of his court, named the village Hosa Kannambadi (New Kannambadi).
